Talking To God

The average American will send 94 text messages and spend 2 hours on social media today.

Human beings are chatty people. Even the quiet ones are talking to someone. We are built to communicate through our mouths, our written words, and even our body language. My six month old can’t form a single syllable of a word but still spends most of her waking hours babbling away to her mom and I. Even she has something to say. So why aren’t we talking to God?

Let’s go over some credentials here, God: creator of the universe, designer of all human beings, Savior to our soul, the beginning and the end of everything. I mean, He even controls the weather during duck season!  And we aren’t talking to Him?

What’s even more astounding, He wants to hear from us. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”  Also in Psalms 145:18, “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” He wants to hear from you when you are happy and even when you are sad or struggling. Psalm 120:1 tells us, “In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me.” He even promises to carry our burdens if we would just give them up to Him, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22.

But He doesn’t talk back? Wrong, there’s an entire book out there of God talking back to us, it’s called the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” So we know, not only is the Bible God talking to us, but even better its a manuscript for how to live our lives for Him. Take away the guessing people! It’s right there written down for us, by a God who loves us and wants to see us do well. He even says it, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare, and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”, Jeremiah 29:11.

Bottom line is easy to see here, folks. There’s something real big out there, bigger than all of our problems, our worries, our fears, and our doubts. He’s available any time, He wants to guide us, and He wants to save us.  All we have to do is talk to Him and listen.
